Holy Week Silent Wisdom Retreat (In Person)
With Heather Ruce
April 3 - 6, 2023
Accompanying Jesus and Mary Magdalene through the Paschal Mystery
Holy Week is more than a series of events surrounding the final days of Jesus’s earthly life that we are to commemorate. We can enter this sacred week from the inside as a way of mutual accompaniment in which we are concurrently embodying the postures of Jesus and Mary Magdalene through this timeless passage through death. Under the conditions of deep silence—weaving in the transformative currents of surrender, three centered presence, attention, and recollection—we will open ourselves to the intense life-giving energy of the Paschal Mystery available to us that we might emerge with the steadfast knowing that ‘Love is as strong as death’ and we too are called to be bearers of that Love.
Join The Contemplative Society for a silent experiential retreat at Bethlehem Centre. There will be an immersion into a ‘wisdom way of knowing’ through a daily rhythm of mindful walking, centering prayer, teaching, reflection, ritual, Gurdjieff Exercises and Movements, chanting, and contemplative free time embedded in the Great Silence.
The Contemplative Society provides a limited number of partial bursaries (up to 50% of the registration fee) to help those in financial need to attend their events, retreats, and Wisdom Schools. Please fill in the linked form to apply for assistance. Bethlehem Centre will get back to you with a discount code to use when you register.
“Dear friends, Over the past few years I have had the immense joy of watching Heather Ruce grow into her own as a Wisdom teacher, most recently in her gifted co-leadership and teaching during our retreat on “Encountering Evil” at the Mercy Center in Burlingame, California last February—and of course, right here in Nanaimo last September!
I clearly count her among the next generation of primary teachers in our Contemplative Wisdom lineage, and I encourage you all to take advantage of the opportunity to midwife a significant emerging voice in the next generation of Wisdom—just as you so kindly did for me thirty years ago.
With her unique combination of contemplative Wisdom, the Gurdjieff work, and psychotherapy, she brings a strongly grounded presence, a much needed set of interwoven being/skills…and a highly articulate and original voice, clearly no longer a student but a teacher holding her own increasing sphere of influence. ”
Blessings, Cynthia Bourgeault
