4:00 pm - 9:30 pm
Bethlehem Centre presents a Winter Solstice Labyrinth Walk Friday, December 21, 2018, at 2371 Arbot Road, welcoming the festive ‘celebration of lights’ season. Join us for our community winter labyrinth walk facilitated by Holly Carnegie Letcher (Veriditas Certified Labyrinth Facilitator). Enjoy the serene mountain and lakeside setting nestled in the woods on beautiful Vancouver Island. All are welcome to attend. Admission is by donation.
Activities start at 4 pm with a chanting workshop led by Leah Hokanson. Participation is by donation. At 5:30 pm a simple supper will be served (RSVP required – see below). During supper, Carol Matthews will talk about her writing on Labyrinths and labyrinthic journeys. At 6 pm enjoy lantern-making as we prepare for our labyrinth walk.
The labyrinth walk starts at 7 pm. Bethlehem Centre’s Winter Solstice Labyrinth Walk facilitator Holly Carnegie Letcher will guide us through a peaceful walk accompanied by the tranquil glow of candle-lit lanterns. For those who don’t wish to walk the outdoor labyrinth, well-known Nanaimo labyrinth author Carol Matthews will be your host in Bethlehem Centre’s impressive Godden Finger Labyrinth Museum. Warm up after the labyrinth walk with a chat, a cookie and a cup of hot apple cider in the main building. There will be a chance to view the Labyrinth Museum and check out the labyrinth items in the gift shop after the walk.
Since 430 BC, labyrinths have consisted of a single path that always returns to the center. By contrast, the common winding maze has multiple paths leading to deceptive dead-ends. Experiencing the labyrinth is a calming and centering experience that offers a tranquil meditation in motion, always returning to the balanced center. Labyrinths are thought to enhance right brain activity and can be useful for problem-solving, conflict resolution, meditation, and modern-day pilgrimage.
Join us for a fun day of activities, a wonderful meal and the unique peaceful and transformative experience of walking the outdoor labyrinth together as one to celebrate the joy of winter solstice. Bring comfortable footwear and weather-appropriate attire for a peaceful and blissful day of reflection and unity. Hope to see you there!
